Barrrthelona

Barrrthelona During my study at St.Joost academy in Breda, me and my classmates visited the city of Barcalona to make a book about this fantastic city. We stayed five days and visited several graphic buro s. One of them was Andreu Balius, a typedesigner working in his studio in Barcelona. Instantly i fell in love with his typeface "Pradell" and thought this would be perfect for my version of the Barcelona-book.

Back in Holland looking at all the pictures i had taken, i felt they just did not capture true Barcelona. So i cut out people, buildings, and even pigeons and reconstructed my Barcelona as i had seen it. Then i took new pictures with my Holga Camera. The bright colors you see are all the magic works of Holga, no photoshop!

The theme i chose for my book is the layers of a city. How you can get lost and find beautiull hidden places, and how you can really get to know a city. To emphasize this i used semi transparant paper, this turned out working really well with my own new pictures of barcelona.

I decided to call my book Barrthelona after hearing a spanish girl pranouncing it this way. I really loved the way she rolled the "rrr" with a soft "th" after it!
